Cosmetic Surgery Warning

Forbes Solicitors is warning people who are considering cosmetic procedures to check the qualifications of the consultants before embarking on surgery.

The firm has recently recorded a sharp increase in claims for compensation arising out of plastic surgery procedures in Lancashire. This was backed up in a recent GP survey by the Harley Medical Group who found that 61% of GPs have now been visited by patients after unsatisfactory cosmetic surgery. The main increase has been claims arising out of breast augmentation, rhinoplasty and face lifts. Breast reductions, laser treatments, and hair removal also figure highly.

Specialist clinical negligence solicitor Sara Linford says, "People's expectations are not always monitored correctly and the complications and possible results are not always explained clearly to the patients. Many people are lulled into cosmetic surgery by glossy adverts, easy payment schemes and even holidays and surgery abroad combined. It is essential people check the qualifications of the consultants who are to undertake the procedures rather than just rely on the clinics to which they pay their fees to do so".

The team recently advised on a claim for a lady from Lancashire who was wrongly advised on a breast augmentation procedure which resulted in the need for remedial surgery. As a result of the compensation claim the cost of the first operation and the remedial surgery is being claimed back as well as the pain and suffering caused by the negligent surgery.
