Delay by GP in diagnosing TB

A 56 year old man attended his General Practitioner in August 2001 with regards to pain in his mid to lower back. He was referred to hospital where tests were carried out. However, even when the tests came back abnormal in February 2002 the GP failed to refer him to a rheumatologist.

In June 2002 he was diagnosed as suffering from tuberculosis meningitis.

He brought a claim against the GP for the delay in diagnosing TB from February to June 2002.

Liability was admitted.

In 2008, aged 63 he was awarded an amount of £2,750,000 for compensation.
