A Carer from Clayton le Moors in Lancashire, who was injured in the course of her duties in an accident at work, has been awarded £16,240 compensation.

At the time of the accident, she was assisting an elderly gentleman from a chair lift onto a wheeled commode.  He weighed 15 stones and as she transferred him she felt that he was falling and had to suddenly give him extra support.  In doing this she felt an immediate pain in her lower back. 

She was diagnosed with an aggravation of a degenerative back condition and a tear of her disc in her spine. An orthopedic expert concluded that her condition was excelled by 3 years as a result of the accident.  He advised that she would be unlikely to be able to return to work as a Carer due to the heavy lifting involved.  She would however be able to work in a different industry.
