Family Of Medical Negligence Victim Awarded £20,000

The family of a 78 year old woman from Leyland was awarded £20,000 after her death due to the result of medical negligence.

The woman suffered a fall on 6th October and was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where  she was examined and discharged.  On returning home she continued to be uncoordinated, confused and aggressive and so attended hospital on a further 2 occasions, before finally being admitted for treatment.  A CT scan was performed on 28 October where it was discovered that she had a collection on the left side of her brain.  By this point it was felt that she was too weak for surgery to drain the collection, and she sadly passed away on 9 November.

Her daughter approached John Bennett and after obtaining expert medical opinion, he was satisfied that the treatment had fallen below the acceptable standard.  CT scans should have been performed on 6 and 13 October, she should have been transferred to the Neurological Department sooner and should have had the necessary operation.  The family were awarded £20,000 in compensation for the pain and suffering that their mother suffered from the date of the fall to her untimely death.
